About Lewisham Law Centre

Legal action for the community

Lewisham Law Centre was founded in 1974. We are a community-based law service that promotes access to legal rights and equality of opportunity. We are charity employing solicitors and paralegals to provide free and independent legal advice and representation to people living, working or studying in the London Borough of Lewisham. The Law Centre is a member of the Law Centres Federation.

The Law Centre provides legal advice and representation which works towards the relief of poverty, discrimination and injustice by providing legal advice and assistance to low paid and unemployed persons on legal matters in the following areas of law: employment, housing, immigration & asylum and welfare rights.

Our time is spent on providing a legal casework service in complex cases, which often involve tribunal or court proceedings. We represent on a regular basis in the county court with housing cases and at tribunal hearings with social security, immigration & asylum and employment cases.

We also aim to highlight injustice that we find in individual cases to bring about social change by challenging local and national government.

The Law Centre also runs a free evening advice service in conjunction with Law Works®, formerly the Solicitors Pro Bono Group, for people with legal problems involving rent arrears, council tax debts and fuel debts.

Our Clients Say...

“The service I had was excellent. I shall never forget that there are few people in our lives that really do make a huge difference. I thank the whole team of the Law Centre especially my caseworker.”
